The history of Comtoise/Morbier clocks from the beginning of the 18th century to the end of the 20th century is illustrated by more than 600 clocks and described in the books by Bernd Deckert.
The origin of the Comtoise/Morbier clocks can be proven by the oldest known Haute-Saône Comtoise/Morbier clock and hybrid Comtoise/Morbier clock, which are exhibited in the Comtoise/Morbier Clock Museum.
The Mayets are important tower clock makers and important manufacturers of Haut-Jura Comtoise - Morbier clocks, but they are not the inventors of Comtoise - Morbier clocks. The oldest known (till today) Haut-Jura Comtoise-Morbier clock dates from 1709.
The largest known and publicly accessible collection of Comtoise-Morbier clocks is on display in the Comtoise-Morbier Clock Museum in Duesseldorf.

9-inch Comtoise clock movement with verge escapement and folded pendulum, rear pendulum guidance, dating to around 1830. Half-hour and full-hour striking on a bell with repetition, striking on a bell. Two-piece decorative plate made of embossed brass sheet depicting the goddess of victory, Nike, standing on a crescent moon, holding a laurel wreath and a trumpet, crowned by a laurel wreath and flanked by palm leaves and cornucopias. This motif symbolizes victory over Turkey, as the Greek struggle for independence since 1821 culminated in 1830 with the rebirth of Greece as an independent state. Other events associated with the Turks, ingrained in French consciousness, also occurred around this time. In 1829, the 300th anniversary of the First Siege of Vienna (1529) was commemorated. In 1833, the 150th anniversary of the Second Siege of Vienna (1683) was observed. This motif was still found towards the late 1830s, though rarely, with the then-common elongated Roman numerals on clock dials.

Dit motief symboliseert de overwinning op Turkije, aangezien de Griekse strijd voor onafhankelijkheid sinds 1821 in 1830 culmineerde in de wedergeboorte van Griekenland als onafhankelijke staat.
