Comtoise rooster clock from the time of Napoleon I, dating to 1809. Verge escapement with lead bob pendulum, half-hour striking en passant, and full-hour striking with repetition on a bell.
Brass cast decorative piece featuring a radiating sun face and ribbon, below which is a five-pointed star (symbol of the Legion of Honor) surrounded by the Cordelière (a symbol of state unity). Domed enamel dial à la Dauphine, meaning with an arcade-shaped minute track, signed: Chavin No. 24 in 1809.
Hour and minute wheels are made of brass. The name Chavin frequently appears on Comtoise clocks from the first half of the century, always accompanied by a year. Chavin was a prominent merchant in Grenoble. (The movement has not been restored.)
