Comtoise clock with cast bracket, Apollo head with ribbon bow over clouds and the five-pointed star of the Legion of Honor, flanked by cherubs. 8-day rope-driven movement with verge escapement and half-hour and full-hour striking with repetition on a bell. NO passing strike for the half-hour. The half-hour strike is executed from the striking mechanism. Displays date and day of the week, with a sun hand. Enamel dial with Roman hour numerals and small Arabic minute numerals in 5-minute divisions, arc-shaped minute ring, signed: Chavin 1814. Chavin was a renowned clock dealer from Grenoble whose dials were always dated, but clocks with dates before 1820 are very rare.
