nr. 582 cum
9-inch Comtoise clock with anchor escapement and lyre pendulum or folded pendulum from around 1875/1880, one-piece embossed decorative plate showing a grape harvest scene. Grapes are poured into a barrel on a horse cart and also directly from a basket into a tub.
On the left side of the decorative plate, on the wide verge, is engraved: la vendange (the grape harvest) as well as 9 & 10, indicating that this motif exists for 9-inch and 10-inch cages. There are therefore two identical sizes of the same motif, i.e., two embossing tools.
On the right side of the decorative plate, on the wide verge, is engraved: Fon F CP (Fabrication Francaise Claude Paget). After 1871, various decorative plates with this mark of French manufacture were produced to distinguish them from the now-emerging German competition of decorative plates by CN (Christian Neufeld) from Iserlohn. Half-hour and full-hour strike on bell with repetition of the hour strike. Enamel dial signed: A. CEYTTE à Thueyts. Contemporary brass hands.
Dial diameter: 205
Cage dimensions: 253 x 247 x 143 HxWxD
Movement dimensions: 408 x 250 x 160 HxWxD
Pendulum length: approx. 1200 (all dimensions in mm)
When comparing the decorative plates of clocks Nr. 581 CUM and Nr. 582 CUM, it is immediately noticeable that both plates have identical areas for the two harvest motifs. The bezel including the decorative corners is identical, as is the draft horse of the cart including the dog at its hooves. Therefore, motif parts from different decorative plates were combined to create new decorative plate motifs.
This grape harvest motif is also available with a different bezel and decorative corners (see Nr. 538 CUM and Nr. 359 CUM).
