Comtoise cock clock with verge escapement and lead pendulum from the early years of the French Revolution 1789-1793. Half hour strike en passant, full hour strike on bell with repeater, plate-like enamel dial with arcade minute track ( à la Dauphine ). Sawn iron hands.
EXTREMELY RARE MODEL OF A CAST ZINN PART with a Gallic rooster flanked by 2 hens and 3 hearts. In revolutionary iconography, these 3 hearts symbolize the third estate - le tiers état.
The cockerel, as a symbol of the French people, also developed further, as it too became a revolutionary symbol. It watches over the freedoms and rights won on behalf of the people, as it were.
