Nr. 399 CUM
Comtoise eagle clock from the time of Napoleon I, around 1800/1806.
Cast decorative piece featuring an eagle and two small side eagles over an empty medallion, framed by the Union chain (chaîne de l’union). 8-day movement with verge escapement. Full-hour strike on bell with repetition after 2 minutes, half-hour strike en passant in an unusual design. On the minute hand shaft, which extends to the back of the movement, a disc is mounted with a release pin, which raises the lever that tensions the hammer shaft, which also strikes the hours. This design eliminates the usual hammer shaft for the half-hour strike, as both half-hour and full-hour strikes are struck via a single hammer shaft. Bombé enamel dial with Roman hour and Arabic quarter-hour numerals, polychrome enamel painting, sawed brass sun hands.
