Nr. 361 CUM

9-inch Comtoise clock with verge escapement and folded pendulum from around 1815/20. Half-hour strike en passant and full-hour strike on a bell with repetition, rear pendulum suspension. Three-part pressed decorative plate composed of two models. The upper part features a sun face (Apollo) above a cup and flanked by cornucopias with lion heads. The background of the hanging upper decorative corners is textured with a scale-like pattern, while the two lower corners display five-pointed stars (compare with clock Nr. 334 CUM) on a radially striated background. Compare clocks Nr. 287 CUM and Nr. 309 CUM, where the two cornucopias with lion heads are replaced by two winged dragons.
The enamel dial, with small Roman numerals and quarter-hour markers, is mounted on the decorative plate, a characteristic of the early Comtoise clocks with pressed decorative plates, developed by Paget starting in 1810. Dial signed: Hassard à la Clayette.
