Comtoise clock from the time of Louis XVIII (1815–1824). Brass decorative top with a sun head, royal crown, and three Bourbon lilies. Half-hour strike en passant, full-hour strike with repetition on a bell. Domed enamel dial. THIOUT escapement, a type of scissor escapement with a pointed-tooth escape wheel, invented by Thiout l’Aîné around the mid-18th century.
This type of escapement is typically only found in large tower clock mechanisms. In Comtoise clocks, it is even rarer than the Mayet escapement.
