No. 570 CUM

10-inch Comtoise clock with verge escapement and folded pendulum from around 1845, two-part embossed decorative front plate depicting a musical couple. Four decorative corner elements, with diagonally opposite corners being identical. The formerly strictly separating groove between the upper section and the corner elements is already transcended here by parts of the figures extending into the corners. Cutting off the upper decorative corners for use as lower decorative corners is not possible with this model; consequently, a separate embossing tool must have existed for the lower corners. The tool for the one-piece embossing was manufactured directly with a lower extension, allowing it to be used for 10- and 11-inch high models by cutting off the lower extension. Decorative front plate models of this type, in which the pediment motif extends into the corners and which require two embossing tools, are rare and presumably occur only in the period from 1843 to 1848 (period of validity of the patent for one-piece embossed decorative front plates). Star hands with dotted surfaces.
