Nr. 397 CUM
Comtoise clock with anchor escapement and pressed pendulum from around 1885/90.
Half- and full-hour strike on bell with repetition on the full hour after 2 minutes. Decorative metalwork and pendulum with volutes and chain motifs.
The decorative metalwork is marked "LP." Leon Paget was probably the most important manufacturer of stamped decorative parts and pendulums in Morez at that time. Compare with the nearly identical decorative metalwork of Nr. 96 CUM, which also has the year 1883 stamped on it. Compare with clock Nr. 114 CUM, which, however, has an automaton in the pendulum. In the lower part of the pendulum is a Turkish coat of arms with standards (Turkish small crescent on the tips), which shows a crown and a star above a lying crescent, with a red background. The red color symbolizes the Khanate and Sultanate, while the green color of the upper part of the pendulum stands for Islam and the Caliphate. The clock shown here is certainly a marriage, as it carries a French signature on the dial. The pendulum most likely originally belonged to a clock that was also equipped with the corresponding decorative metalwork by LP, but probably also had Turkish numerals and the corresponding signature.
