8-inch Comtoise clock from the Louis XVI period, around 1775/1780, originating from the Haute-Marne region.
Timekeeping mechanism on the right, striking mechanism on the left.
Anchor escapement with a lateral gabled anchor (see detailed photo). Half-hour striking en passant, full-hour striking with repetition on a bell. The pendulum runs outside the cage at the rear, with thorn-shaped spacers and a hanging bracket on the back of the cage.
Double-curved enamel dial. Brass decorative corners and a brass gable with a central "M," presumably the initials of the clock's manufacturer.
