Nr. 544 CUM
10-inch Comtoise monthly clock (9-inch wider cage) with verge escapement and folded pendulum, half-hour and full-hour strike on a bell with repetition of the hour strike. Alarm movement. Enamel dial signed: Bailly à St. André de Cubzac. Star hand. Two-piece embossed decorative brass plate with a lower extension featuring the motif Temptation. Two angels are dancing, but the lively, dancing young girl is simultaneously threatened by two upper left and right demons, namely Death and the Devil, who want to lead her into temptation. For this decorative plate, two embossing tools were required, as the gable's depiction already extended beyond the ridge, which is still partially visible, into the two upper dial corners. Therefore, it was no longer possible to obtain the two upper decorative plate corners by cutting them at the ridge and rotating them 180°. The necessary second embossing tool was created with an additional lower strip, approximately 3 cm wide, separated by a ridge. This second embossing tool thus produced the lower half of the decorative plate, either for the 10-inch monthly movement or without the lower strip for the 9-inch 8-day movement.
