No. 551 CUM Comtoise clock with verge escapement and folded pendulum from around 1820/1825. Month movement, half and full hour strike on bell with repetition of the full strike after 2 minutes. Enamel dial with Roman numerals and small quarter hour indications. Two-part embossed brass ornamental plate with sun head and ribbon bow over fruit bowl, framed on the sides by acanthus and 2 pine cones, see also the clocks in volume 1, no. 38 CUM, clock no. 314 and no. 461 CUM. This model is one of the first decorative plates with an embossed dial bead. Sun hands. Dial diameter: 245 Cage dimensions: 312 x 276 x 150 HxWxD, movement dimensions: 440 x 277 x 175 HxWxD, chimney: 44, pendulum length: 1340 ( all dimensions in mm ). As there was not yet a separate embossing tool for covering the lower half of the dial, the exposed edge of this clock was covered with smooth sheet brass under the corners cut off from the second embossed part, turned 180° and then mounted. A little later, the lower ornamental plate required for monthly clocks was replaced by a part cut off from the 2nd stamped part, which, however, was cut through the stamping approx. 3 cm above the beading, cf. clocks no. 38 CUM, no. 314 CUM and no. 461 CUM. Embossed sheet brass and smooth sheet brass were fixed with small screws, as was customary. If you see this clock as an offer, you might think it is a mariage, i.e. a recent piece of handicraft. However, it is an extremely rare variant from the time of the first embossed decorative plates.
