Comtoise clock with verge escapement and folded pendulum from around 1820/1825. Monthly movement, half-hour and full-hour strike on a bell with repetition of the full strike after 2 minutes. Enamel dial with Roman hour numerals and small quarter-hour indications. Two-part embossed brass decorative plate with a sun head and ribbon bow above a fruit bowl, framed on the sides by acanthus leaves and two pine cones. Since there was no independent embossing tool for covering the lower half of the dial, the free edge was covered with smooth brass sheet under the corners cut off from the second embossing part, rotated 180°, and then mounted. Shortly after, the lower decorative plate, necessary for monthly clocks, was replaced by a part cut from the second embossing piece, which was, however, cut approximately 3 cm above the groove through the embossing. See clocks No. 38 CUM, No. 314 CUM, and No. 461 CUM. Embossed brass and smooth brass sheets were fixed with small screws, as was customary. If one sees this clock as an offering, it might seem like a “mariage,” i.e., a recent assembly of parts. However, it is an extremely rare variant from the era of the first embossed decorative plates.
