No. 578 CUM

10-inch Comtoise clock with verge escapement and folded pendulum, dating from around 1850/1855. One-piece pressed decorative front plate with grape harvest motif and 4 identical corner decorations. Since the front edge of the cage top plate is not flush with the two cage bars but protrudes beyond them, many clocks develop cracks at the decorative plate corners near the groove. To prevent this, a prominent groove was created here, projecting the gable forward and ensuring that the front edge of the upper cage plate is embedded in the rear cavity of this groove. Although logical, such prominent grooves are very rare.
Half-hour and full-hour strikes on bell with repetition of the hour strike.
