Comtoise rooster clock from the time of the French Revolution, dated 1793. Verge escapement and lead pear-shaped pendulum, half-hour strike en passant, full-hour strike with repetition on a bell. The brass cast decorative part features a Gallic rooster and a Jacobin cap, surrounded by a chaîne de l’union (chain of union). Brass hands with a double heart shape.
Domed enamel dial with date display from 1 to 31.
The Republican calendar, which used a date display from 2 to 30, was only introduced at the end of 1793, so this clock predates the end of that year.
