Comtoise cock clock from the Directoire period ( 1795 - 1799 ) with Chevalier de Bethune escapement, half hour strike en passant, full hour strike on bell with repeater, cast brass ornamental part with Gallic cock, 2 hens and empty medallion, which is framed by the chain of the union ( chaîne de l'union ). Plate-like enamel dial.
Like the verge escapement and lever escapement, the Chevalier de Bethune escapement is a retrograde escapement. The Chevalier de Bethune escapement and the Mayet escapement are very similar. In contrast to the Mayet escapement, in which the two axles are connected to the escapement lugs by a fixed linkage, in the Chevalier de Bethune escapement the two axles are connected to the escapement surfaces by a linkage with an adjusting screw. All that is known about this escapement is that the aforementioned Chevalier de Bethune invented it around 1727. Minute and hour wheel with rare star-shaped wheel spokes.
