12-inch Comtoise clock from the Directoire period (1795/99) with a Republican calendar.
Displays month days 2-30 as well as the décade days Primidi (first day) to Décadi (tenth day).
4/4 strike - Grande Sonnerie - on 3 bells (3 weights). Verge escapement, lead pear-shaped pendulum.
With the Republican calendar, decimal time was also introduced in France; however, the obligation to use it was lifted after approximately 1.5 years, whereas the calendar remained in use until December 31, 1805. The dial shows numerous fracture lines that have been re-sealed during subsequent decorative firings (see detailed photos).
