Comtoise clock with a sun face and a small eagle from the time of Napoleon I, central second hand, pinwheel escapement by Amant, half- and full-hour strike repeated by the striking mechanism, domed enamel dial with Arabic numerals and the signature:
TEMS VRAI À PARIS Lépaute.
The Lépaute family is one of the most renowned French clockmaking dynasties, founded by Jean-André l'Aîné Lépaute (1720–1789). This clock was made around 1800 during the period of the Republican calendar (Tems vrai = true time), when the Lépaute workshop was located at 259, rue St. Thomas du Louvre.
A very extraordinary "Comtoise" clock, made for the Parisian market.
