10-inch Comtoise clock from around 1810/15 with a cast decorative part, featuring a large sun face (Apollo head) with 12 radiant bundles, lateral volutes, flowers, and grapevines, and centrally the emblem of a flaming stylized grenade. This emblem can be found on helmets, belt buckles, and uniform buttons of the grenadiers of Napoleon I's imperial guard. Today, this emblem is still visible in everyday life in France, as French firefighters also wear it on their uniforms, having been placed under military authority by Napoleon I.
Verge escapement and folded pendulum, half-hour and full-hour strike on a bell with repetition of the hour strike – struck from the wheelwork, no half-hour passing strike – striking triggered by spring pressure. The inside of the bell is – extremely rare – also marked with a stylized flaming grenade. Enamel dial with Roman hour numerals and large Arabic quarter-hour markings.
