Nr. 509 CUM

Comtoise clock from around 1820. 8-day weight-driven movement with verge escapement and hour strike on a bell with repetition, half-hour strike en passant.
The decorative sheet with a palmette above a stele, flanked by winged dragons and stylized laurel, was first stamped around 1820. The two upper corners were stamped together with the dragon motif from a single piece. In the same second stamping, the corners were then cut off to be mounted as separate lower corners. This clock, therefore, has three decorative sheet parts, and in general, during the period from 1810 to around 1820, the enamel dial still sits on the decorative sheet parts. Shortly thereafter, the stamped dragon motif became the standard motif with a dial rim, so that the decorative sheet sits above the dial, but then as a two-part decorative sheet enamel dial with Roman hour and Arabic quarter-hour numerals, sun hand. Signed: Pottier A MACON.
