Nr. 173 CUM
10-inch Comtoise clock from around 1810/15, with spindle escapement and folded pendulum, monthly movement, sun hands. Half-hour strike en passant, full-hour strike on bell with repetition, bombé enamel dial with quarter-hour numerals, resting on the embossed brass decorative plate. A cast decorative piece, which could have been mounted on this clock in 1810, was replaced by the first embossed decorative plate created by Paget. Sun's head (Apollo's head) and banded ribbon above a fruit bowl, acanthus, five-pointed star on a radially striped background, the lower half of the dial is covered with smooth brass sheet, as is common with many clocks of this period (see e.g., Fig. No. 24 CUM, No. 30 CUM, No. 31 CUM). This clock is an exemplary example of the transitional period from clocks with cast decorative parts to clocks with embossed decorative plates. The dial has been restored.
