No. 575 CUM

9-inch Comtoise clock with verge escapement and folded pendulum, dating from around 1840/1845. Two-part pressed decorative front plate with gable depiction of The Temptation. The groove, separating the gable from the corners, is only rudimentarily visible, as the gable depiction grows into the corners. Therefore, a separate pressing tool was necessary for the two lower corners, which was directly pressed with lower extension for 10-inch and 9-inch clocks (strip is cut off). A dancing girl, symbolizing innocence and virtue, is threatened top left by the grinning face of the Grim Reaper and top right by the devil’s head, while at the bottom left and right two musical putti play for the dance. Two ram heads serve as upper corner decorations. Half-hour and full-hour strikes on bell executed by weight-driven strike work. Alarm mechanism. Star hands with engraved surfaces. Enamel dial signed: Dold à Metz.
