Comtoise clock with anchor escapement, 11 inch movement, brass embossed decorative plate, half and full hour strike on bell with repetition of the hour strike after 2 minutes. Enamel dial with Turkish numerals for the Ottoman Empire. Signed: G.SÜSSMANN AU CAIRE (Cairo). Süssmann was probably not only a clockmaker but also an optician, represented by the small pair of spectacles under the Arabic lettering. A similar dial is illustrated in Maitzner/Moreau, La Comtoise-La Morbier-La Morez, 1985 on page 421.
