Nr. 127 CUM
9-inch Comtoise clock from the Haute-Marne region during the time of Napoleon I, around 1805.
Features a small crutch anchor escapement with a rigid pendulum (small lens, 13–15 cm diameter). The pendulum operates outside the cage at the rear, with thorn-shaped spacers and a hanging bracket at the back of the cage. Half-hour strike en passant and full-hour strike on a bell with repetition. Cast decorative element with an eagle, flanked on both sides by two smaller eagles, positioned above an empty medallion surrounded by a cordeliere.
The dial has been restored, evident from the numbers, name, and lines being repainted in black (see detail photo). The original color would have been brownish/purple, as only metal oxide pigments were available for enameling at that time. Manganese oxide produced the brownish/purple hue.
Dial diameter: 244 mm
Case dimensions: 249 x 241 x 121 mm (HxWxD)
Movement dimensions: 380 x 244 x 170 mm (HxWxD), including the thorn-shaped spacers.
