No. 518 CUM Comtoise clock with verge escapement and folded pendulum from 1846. Two-part embossed decorative plate with depiction of a gardener. Half hour and full hour strike on bell with repeater.  Enamel dial with Roman numerals and polychrome flower painting around the place and year 1846, signed: Reffet Emmanuel 1846 - Berthet Beaufils Hger à Morez.                                 Diameter dial: 247 Cage dimensions: 275 x 273 x 151 HxWxD / Movement dimensions: 420 x 275 x 170 HxWxD.     Chimney 54 Pendulum length: approx. 1265 ( all dimensions in mm ).

The image of the lower corners has been rotated by 180 degrees so that it is easy to see that the lower half of the two-part decorative plate has been cut off from the upper part, as the petals protruding into the beading have been cut through. At the point of the gardener's foot, which also protrudes into the corrugation, the sheet metal was then flattened again at the edge. If 2 tools had been used for the upper and lower part, complete petals would certainly have been created in the lower part.      Fig. above: Lower edge of the tool cage rotated by 180°.                                                                             Even if only a single embossing tool was made for this two-part ornamental sheet of 1846, this clearly shows that even in 1846, when a patent for one-piece embossing of ornamental sheets had already existed for three years, the practice of cutting off the lower decorative corners from the second embossed piece still existed for decades.
