No. 550 CUM
9-inch Comtoise clock with verge escapement, alarm mechanism, two-part decorative plate featuring a sun motif, and petite sonnerie (three-quarter strike) on only 2 bells. The special feature of this clock lies in the fact that the quarter strike is executed not, as usual, on the two small bells (out of a total of 3 bells) but on only one small bell and the large bell (a total of 2 bells). To achieve this, a conventional lever system for strike activation was supplemented with a second lever system. This second system removes the foot of the hammer axis for the small bell from engagement with the strike star during the hour strike, so only the large bell (hour strike) is struck. This is an extremely rare design of a petite sonnerie strike mechanism. Enamel dial with floral decoration, signed: Bailly Fils à Dijon.
