Nr. 554 CUM

11-inch Comtoise clock from around 1820. 8-day rope-driven movement with verge escapement and hour strike on bell with repetition, half-hour strike en passant. Enamel dial signed: Coste A CAILLAC. Decorative sheet metal with a small sunburst over a lyre, flanked by two winged angels. Decorative corners with finely fluted background and palmette, as seen in connection with the dragon motif, which probably first appeared around 1820. The two upper corners were stamped together with the angel motif from one piece. In the same second stamping, the corners were then cut off to be mounted as lower corners. The same decorative sheet metal pediment exists with two different decorative corners. The older version from around 1815/1820 can be seen on clock No. 526 CUM, where the decorative corners also have a fluted background but are adorned with a Louis XVI bow and grapevines. In this version, the dial rests on the decorative corners, as no dial rim was stamped yet.
