nr. 581 cum
9-inch Comtoise clock with anchor escapement and lyre pendulum or folded pendulum from around 1875/1880, one-piece embossed decorative plate showing a harvest scene. Sheaves of grain tied by a woman are loaded onto a two-wheeled cart by a man. On the left side of the decorative plate, on the wide verge, is engraved: la moisson (the harvest) as well as 9 10 & 10 11, indicating that this motif exists for 9-inch, 10-inch, and 11-inch cages. The 9-inch decorative plate is embossed in 9-inch size, while the 11-inch plate was embossed with a lower extension, which could then be trimmed to fit 10-inch cages. Thus, two embossing tools were used for the three standard sizes.
On the right side of the decorative plate, on the wide verge, is engraved: Fon F CP (Fabrication Francaise Claude Paget). After 1871, various decorative plates with this mark of French manufacture were made to distinguish them from German-made decorative plates by CN (Christian Neufeld) from Iserlohn. Half-hour and full-hour strike on bell with repetition of the hour strike. Enamel dial signed: Jules BINET au Teilleul. Contemporary brass hands.
Dial diameter: 207
Cage dimensions: 251 x 249 x 140 HxWxD
Movement dimensions: 396 x 250 x 160 HxWxD
Pendulum length: approx. 1200 (all dimensions in mm)
When comparing the decorative plates of clocks Nr. 581 CUM and Nr. 582 CUM, it is immediately noticeable that both plates have identical areas for the two harvest motifs. The bezel including the decorative corners is identical, as is the draft horse of the cart including the dog at its hooves. Therefore, motif parts from different decorative plates were combined to create new decorative plate motifs.
This grape harvest motif is also available with a different bezel and decorative corners (see Nr. 538 CUM and Nr. 359 CUM).
