Nr. 205 CUM
9-inch Comtoise clock mechanism from around 1840/45 with an innovative patented striking mechanism. A plaque is screwed onto the upper cage plate: Sonnerie perfectionnée BREVET N.484 AUGuste GIROD A MOREZ. (Perfected striking mechanism, Patent No. 484, Auguste Girod in Morez). (see detail photo)
The entire striking mechanism's quadrature is mounted on the front plate. Although this new striking design likely saved material and perhaps assembly time, it did not gain popularity. Clocks equipped with this type of mechanism are extremely rare. Verge escapement with folded pendulum. Two-part decorative plate with traditional sunface and cornucopia motif. Alarm mechanism.
