9-inch Comtoise rooster clock from the Louis XVI period, circa 1785/1790.
Cast decorative part featuring a small Gallic rooster above a medallion with three Bourbon lilies (carved out during the Revolution), surrounded by the chain of union (chaîne de l’union). 8-day movement with verge escapement. Full-hour strike on a bell with a two-minute repetition, half-hour passing strike in an unusual design, mounted on top of the front strikework plate. Alarm mechanism.
Cuvette-shaped enamel dial with arched minute track (à la Dauphine) featuring Roman hour numerals and Arabic minute numerals, saw-cut iron hands.
