Nr. 208 CUM

9-inch Comtoise clock from the time of the French Revolution, around 1793–1795. Verge escapement and lead bob pendulum, half-hour strike en passant, full-hour strike on bell with repetition. Brass cast decorative piece with Gallic rooster, 2 hens, and clasped hands.
Domed enamel dial, date display from 2 to 30 according to the Republican calendar, which was introduced at the end of 1793, retroactive to the year 1792, and was valid until December 31, 1805.
The switching mechanism for the date display is extraordinary and very rarely found on Comtoise clocks.
The date wheel with 30 teeth is advanced once per day by a pin mounted on a four-armed star. The four-armed star itself is advanced four times per day by two pins mounted on the hour wheel, as the hour wheel rotates twice per day.
The hour pipe has a thread onto which the hour hand is screwed.
