Nr. 152 CUM
10-inch Comtoise with verge escapement and folded pendulum from around 1840/45 with traditional sun head/cornucopia motif. Half-hour strike en passant and full hour strike on bell with repetition.
The enamel dial, signed Morel Fils Cadet à Montbrison, has some extremely noticeable flaws, namely from I through XII to XI, from III and between IV and V. These damages occurred during the manufacturing of the enamel dial, prior to delivery to the customer. After the labeling and painting were applied, these distinctive cracks appeared. During the firing process for the enamel colors, these cracks only partially melted (as shown), because the temperature necessary for complete fusion of approximately 860°C was not reached, as the metal oxide colors are fired at much lower temperatures. When a clock is delivered with such dial flaws, it indicates a high cost for the production of the dial. Enamel defects are found on many Comtoise clock dials.
Diameter of the dial: 245
