Nr. 177 CUM

10-inch Comtoise clock movement with verge escapement and folded pendulum, dating to 1838. Half-hour and full-hour strike on a bell with repetition.
Two-part decorative plate made of embossed brass featuring a sun head (Apollo) and a ribbon bow over a fruit bowl, flanked by laurel palm leaves and cornucopias. Stylized flowers on a dotted background adorn the four corners. Iron hands in Breguet style.
This clock is a very early example of a clock with a weight-driven strike release featuring this typical triangular shape of the large lever system for the striking mechanism, which only appears from the late 1830s to the early 1850s. During this period, strike release by spring pressure was still predominant.
