Nr. 136 CUM

9-inch Comtoise clock from 1860/65 with a pressed lunette. Verge escapement with a folded pendulum, half-hour and full-hour strike on a gong with repetition. The first clocks with pressed lunette appeared as early as the second half of the 1850s. The four corners of the dial plate are still covered with remnants of old gold bronze. The enamel dial features floral paintings in four typical oxide colors used in enamel painting: blue from cobalt oxide, green from copper oxide, red from iron oxide, and brownish-purple from manganese oxide. What appears black is a very thick, often relief-like application of manganese oxide.
Signature: Vve. (Veuve = widow) Haas à Moulins. The name Haas indicates a Black Forest clock merchant who settled in Moulins. After his death, his widow continued the business and signed accordingly.
Pinwheel escapement, folded pendulum, strike on a bell.
