No. 536 CUM 9 inch Comtoise clock with anchor escapement and grid iron pendulum from around 1875/1880. Half hour and full hour strike on bell with repetition of the full hour strike. Rare ornamental arched plate with religious depiction, manufactured and exported to France by the Carl Neufeld company ( CN DEPOSE ) from Iserlohn. Mary and Jesus, surrounded by the rosary, show their bleeding hearts. The bleeding heart of Jesus with the crown of thorns, Mary's flaming heart, pierced by a sword. Central at the end of the rosary are an anchor, cross and crossed keys. Images of two winged angel heads in the lower decorative corners. The lens of the rust pendulum is decorated with a medallion depicting Mary with the infant Jesus in her arms. Green leaves and 16 small mirrors surround the pendulum lens. Enamel dial signed: F. FRAGU Fils à Thénezay. Dial diameter: 211 Cage dimensions: 249 x 248 x 140 HxWxD Movement dimensions: 400 x 251 x 155 HxWxD. Pendulum length: approx. 1260 ( all dimensions in mm ). The tips of two leaves on the pendulum bob have been cut off, presumably touching the side wall of the grandfather clock case. This decorative plate from CN is extremely rare. The pendulum was probably made to order for a very religious customer.
