9-inch Comtoise clock with anchor escapement and gridiron pendulum from around 1875/1880. Half-hour and full-hour strike on a bell with repetition of the full-hour strike. Rare arched decorative plate with a religious depiction, manufactured and exported to France by Carl Neufeld (CN DEPOSE) from Iserlohn. Mary and Jesus, surrounded by the rosary, display their bleeding hearts. The bleeding heart of Jesus with the crown of thorns, and Mary's flaming heart, pierced by a sword. At the center, at the end of the rosary, anchor, cross, and crossed keys. In the lower decorative corners, depictions of two winged angel heads. The gridiron pendulum's lens is adorned with a medallion depicting Mary holding baby Jesus. Green leaves and 16 small mirrors frame the pendulum lens. Enamel dial signed: F. FRAGU Fils à Thénezay.

The tips of two leaves on the pendulum lens were trimmed, likely because they touched the side wall of the longcase clock case. This decorative plate by CN is extremely rare. The pendulum was likely custom-made for a very religious customer.
