Comtoise cock clock with verge escapement and lead pendulum from 1793. Half hour strike en passant, full hour strike with repetition on bell. As the Republican calendar - each month had 30 days - was introduced in 1793 with retroactive effect to 1792, this clock with the three hearts can only date from 1793. Plate-like enamel dial with arcade minute track ( à la Dauphine ) and maker's signature: Navand à Morez ( see detailed photo ). Date hand.Serrated iron hands.
Cast brass decoration with sun head ( 12 rays ), grapes, volutes and a small medallion with three hearts. In revolutionary iconography, these 3 hearts symbolize the third estate - le tiers état. Small brass hearts made of thin sheet brass in the two lower corners.
