No. 38 CUM

Comtoise clock with Grande Sonnerie, 4/4 strike on 3 bells, 3 weights, and repetition of the hour strike. Convex enamel dial with Arabic hour numerals and Arabic quarter-hour numerals.
The Republican calendar, valid from 1792 to December 31, 1805, suggests that this clock was made between 1800 and 1805. However, the two-part embossed brass decorative plate with a sun-face motif (Apollo head), ribbon above a flower basket, acanthus leaves, and pinecones (with an embossing error, see the right pinecone) suggests a production date around 1820.
During the restoration of this clock, no evidence was found of any modifications that would suggest the clock was built before 1806 and later modernized around 1820 with the decorative plate. For some reason, this clock was made around 1820 with a date display ranging from 2 to 30.
(The enamel dial was restored.)
